Duplicating objects with Clone

In the last movie we saw how to duplicate objects using the Array tool. Now I want to show you how to duplicate objects without the Array tool, just manually. And that's the Clone command. If we select any object, such as one of these pergola cross beams, we can go into the Edit menu and choose Clone. You'll see the keyboard shortcut for that is Ctrl-V. Unlike in most programs, Ctrl-V isn't just paste. paste. In Max, Control-V is actually copy and paste in one operation. I'm going to go ahead and do this using the dialog box. So I'll execute this by clicking on Edit Clone, and we get the clone options. And we've got a new name for our object we're about to create, and we can make it a copy, an instance, or a reference. If it's a copy, then the two two objects have no relationship to one another. If it's an instance, the two objects are exactly identical. They share the same shape. They have the same modifiers. They're exactly identical, except maybe they might have different…
