Assiniboine Community College is hosting three open houses this spring and summer to enable potential students to find out more about its programs and how to apply for funding through the college.

“We are always excited to connect with future students and allow them to get a taste for our programs and interact with our college community,” Erin Lambert, the college’s manager of recruitment, said in a news release. “We encourage all students to look into financial supports that are available to them in their chosen programs.”

For the first time ever, Lambert said, ACC has more than $1 million in scholarships and bursaries available to offer its future students.

Open houses are planned for May 22, June 19 and July 24, all from 6 to 8 p.m.

During each of the open houses, program faculty will be available to share insights and details about their programs, academic prerequisites and how they are delivered.

Prospective students can also find out about career paths that are available once they graduate, and what opportunities combine studies with on-the-job experience.

Campus tours will be conducted to showcase the classrooms, labs and additional learning spaces that support the college’s philosophy of learning by doing.

Assiniboine offers an eight-month public safety advanced diploma program in partnership with the Brandon Police Service and is recognized as basic police recruit training for Manitoba’s police agencies.

Graduates of the program are prepared for careers within municipal and First Nation police services in Manitoba, other police services across Canada and public safety roles with Canada Border Services Agency, sheriff services, corrections or private security firms, according to the college website.

Jack Ewatski, academic chair of public safety at Assiniboine, said they’re always pleased to show potential new students what the program offers “as the leading provider for public safety training in Manitoba.”

“Our program has a proven track record of preparing individuals for a career in policing or various public safety entities, with our advanced diploma being a great fit for those with a university credential looking to enhance their skills and knowledge in these specialized fields,” said Ewatski.

The agribusiness program within the Russ Edwards School of Agriculture and Environment is one of many diplomas offered at Assiniboine.

“Agriculture-related jobs are in high demand,” said Edwards School academic chair Chris Budiwski. “Our Edwards School programs train students with industry-relevant skills in not only traditional agricultural disciplines, but the technological and environmental aspects of the ag field that are becoming increasingly significant.”
