Scott Low sings songs about things he knows. Since moving from 150-200 shows a year and Athens GA, Low has founded a fly fishing art music camp, Hatch Camp and Art Farm. But Scott still sings songs in the American Folk tradition with a touch of Country and Appalachia performing solo or with his band, The Southern Bouillon.
2024 brought us The Appalachian Blues which everyone is calling Low’s best effort yet. A mash of Piedmont and Delta blues with a touch of Appalachia.
With a wide ranging background stretching from jazz to punk to southern rock, Low pulls from all the things that have shaped him. From Townes and Dylan to Miles and Zappa. But what comes out on stage is an intense rendering of original songs (and a few choice covers). In the summer of 2016, Scott released THE NEW VINTAGE, a 2+ year project of songs that fall into the net of Americana and followed it with extensive touring. A more folk album came next with 2018’s BURNING TIRES, SMOKING GUNS. Then 2020 and COVID brought THE SOUTHERN BOUILLON LIVE.
Initial comparisons to Jamey Johnson, Ryan Bingham, and Hayes Carll have been written by the more Americana press, but there are touches of Tom Waits, and Nina Simone that linger in the shadows.
Over the years Scott has shared the tour stage/road with Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, Caleb Caudle, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Sammy Kershaw, Shovels & Rope, Chris Knight, and many more.

Trampled by Turtles will be joined by Benjamin Tod & Lost Dog Street Band.
Trampled by Turtles are from Duluth, Minnesota, where frontman Dave Simonett initially formed the group as a side project in 2003. At the time, Simonett had lost most of his music gear, thanks to a group of enterprising car thieves who’d ransacked his vehicle while he played a show with his previous band. Left with nothing more than an acoustic guitar, he began piecing together a new band, this time taking inspiration from bluegrass, folk, and other genres that didn’t rely on amplification. Simonett hadn’t played any bluegrass music before, and he filled his lineup with other newcomers to the genre, including fiddler Ryan Young (who’d previously played drums in a speed metal act) and bassist Tim Saxhaug. Along with mandolinist Erik Berry and banjo player Dave Carroll, the group began carving out a fast, frenetic sound that owed as much to rock & roll as bluegrass.
Trampled by Turtles released their first record, Songs from a Ghost Town, in 2004. In a genre steeped in tradition, the album stood out for its contemporary sound, essentially bridging the gap between the bandmates’ background in rock music and their new acoustic leanings. Blue Sky and the Devil (2005) and Trouble (2007) explored a similar sound, but it wasn’t until 2008 and the band’s fourth release, Duluth, that Trampled by Turtles received recognition by the bluegrass community. Duluth peaked at number eight on the Billboard bluegrass chart and paved the way for a number of festival appearances. When Palomino arrived in 2010, it was met with an even greater response, debuting at the top of the bluegrass chart and remaining in the Top Ten for more than a year. Two years later, their crossover appeal landed them at number 32 on the Billboard 200 pop charts upon the release of their sixth album, Stars and Satellites. In addition to major bluegrass and folk festivals, they began showing up at Coachella, ACL Fest, and Lollapalooza. The official concert album, Live at First Avenue, followed in 2013, recorded at Minnesota’s most famous venue. A year later, the band returned with the darker-toned Wild Animals, which bettered its studio predecessor on the album charts, reaching number 29 on Billboard. Countless tours with bands like Lord Huron, Wilco, Caamp, Mt Joy and Deer Tick to name a few have followed. 2022 will see the release of the band’s latest body of work called Alpenglow which was produced by Jeff Tweedy of Wilco.

Surely Tempo
consists of Alex Martinez, Raymond Pardo, Paul Florindo, and David Ismodes. The group formed in 2020 releasing their first single “ I don’t talk” in August and later in that same year releasing their debut EP “ Days so Bitter, Yet so sweet” Following that the group has been consistently releasing singles that are recorded and mixed by their producer and audio engineer Bryan Farrell.
Tony Jupiter is a dynamic Chicano surf goth band hailing from El Paso, Texas, founded in 2018. With an eclectic fusion of surf-inspired melodies and gothic undertones, their distinctive sound has captivated audiences nationwide. From electrifying performances at various events to the creation of a dedicated fan base, Tony Jupiter has solidified their presence within the surf goth genre, delivering an unforgettable musical experience with each performance.

According to Atlanta-based blues guitarist, singer and songwriter Tinsley Ellis, his new, first-ever solo acoustic album, Naked Truth, is both “a departure and an arrival.” Ellis has been recording and travelling the world for over four decades, delivering his feral, guitar-fueled, original electric blues-rock to ever-growing audiences at concert halls, festivals, and clubs. Naked Truth is steeped in the folk blues traditions of Muddy Waters, Skip James, Son House, Robert Johnson and even Leo Kottke. To the casual fan, this might seem to be a new direction, but for Ellis, it’s an extension of his music, as he taps into the raw essence of the blues. “This is a record I’ve always wanted to make, and one that my longtime fans have been asking for,” he says, noting he’s included an acoustic mini-set in his concert performances for years. In the last 12 months, Ellis has already performed over 100 solo shows, many as co-bills with his Alligator label-mate Marcia Ball. “I’m having so much fun playing these shows,” he says.

With engaging activities rooted in creative play, kids will have so much fun expressing themselves through the arts, they won’t even notice they’re also building confidence, improving physical and emotional awareness, honing listening and focus skills, and learning to work within a group. At the end of the week, campers will celebrate what they’ve learned in an informal sharing for friends and family.

For this year’s Pritchard Park Songwriter Series, the Asheville Association is teaming up with Paloma Madre who are best known for bringing Asheville the wildly successful, international concept, Open Folk. Each week will feature two world class songwriters from our community playing introspective and honest tunes about life in the 21st century. Pritchard Park will once again be filled with the sweet sounding songs of heartbreak, true love, heavy loss, and lots and lots of goofin. It’s a guaranteed good time that won’t cost you a dime!!
The California native and Nashville-based singer-songwriter uses an intoxicating array of vocal styles to bring her songs to life. She grew up mimicking the vocal styles of Graham Parsons, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt, and it was in their music this seasoned troubadour found her own voice and songwriting style.

Caged Affair
is an alternative rock band based out of Asheville NC. Their neo-grunge punk hybrid sound has drawn parallels to bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Nirvana and Royal Blood.
Led by guitarist/vocalist Tyler Kemmerling, whose music has been heavily influenced by the Foo Fighters, Nirvana, My Bloody Valentine and Smashing Pumpkins, Caged Affair delivers music written with a sense of both despair and whit, a counterculture look at modern day society. “Falling into Madness,” a recently released single, vividly illustrates youths’ disillusionment with the fading American dream.
A rock band that fuses classic sounds and modern tones, The Appalachian Renegades call upon guitar heavy riffs mixed with soaring saxophone melodies and clean vocals to form their core sound. Having spent 7 years playing shows across WNC, the renegades are currently writing music for their 4th studio release. Devil’s Wish, the third of their career, had two #1 singles in the summer of 2022 on Buzz Radio Asheville. The guys produce a sound reminiscent of rock bands like Greta Van Fleet, Clutch, Volbeat, Government Mule, Jack White, Black Stone Cherry, and My Morning Jacket among many other influential contemporary and classic rock artists.

Join us Friday, May 31 at Burntshirt Vineyards Tasting Room and Winery for live music at the vineyard from singer-songwriter and guitarist Eric Congdon! Eric continues to establish his reputation as one of the region’s most engaging artists. Eric is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, collaborator, producer, and virtuoso guitarist. His sonic vocabulary runs rich and deep, surprising and engaging audiences everywhere. You never know what kind of music to expect. His live shows are a medley of influences, ideas, and improvisation. You may hear anything from Blues and Americana to World Music and everything in between! Eric will be performing at the Burntshirt Vineyards Winery and Tasting Room on Friday from 3-6 PM. Come on out to the winery for an afternoon of amazing musicianship and fabulous wine! The beats of the Friday Night Drum Circle have been rocking Pritchard Park for decades and the circle has become so popular that it is featured in magazines and TV commercials.
The Asheville Downtown Association is thrilled to announce the return of the beloved Pritchard Park Arts and Culture Series, made possible through a generous partnership with the Trina Mullen Foundation, City of Asheville Parks and Recreation, ArtsAVL, and Explore Asheville. This summer series will run from May 28 through August 30, featuring exciting activations every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
Drum Circle
The Asheville Downtown Association is proud to facilitate the return of Asheville’s iconic Drum Circle. Feel the rhythm and join the beat as the community comes together for an evening of drumming, dancing, and camaraderie.
Chris Wilhelm is known for bringing positive vibes and an uplifting message to his audience. He plays Americana, folk rock originals that are infectious and insightful, and sprinkles in covers too. Worldwide airplay brought his latest album “This Too Shall Pass” to be one of the Top 100 Alt-Country Albums of 2020, and it spent several months on the national folk charts as well.
Chris Wilhelm is a songcatcher and live performer. He made guitars out of cardboard before getting his first one at 13. Born in Hudson, NY, he later moved to Albany, NY, then Boston, and currently lives in Asheville, NC. He has released nine records and played thousands of shows. He has performed in theaters, concert venues, festivals, clubs, bars, libraries, retirement homes, subways, performed on the street and even played at a marathon. He played over 200 shows a year for several years.
In 2000 Chris played his first open mic and has been performing live and recording ever since. He’s performed thousands of shows from the subways in Boston to venues up and down the East Coast.
In 2004, Chris released his first album, “McKinsley Steel” – it is well loved by many of his fans and includes classic songs such as “Travellin’ on Down” and the title track.
In 2005 he released an album called “This Train’s Not Going Slow.” It reached #3 on Boston’s 88.7FM WERS radio charts, and he played shows in many Boston venues including Club Passim, etc.
In 2008 Chris did his first solo tour, down to New Orleans and back to Boston. He released his second studio album, “Glory, Filth and Fame.”
From 2012-2015 he played 225 shows a year as the singer-songwriter for The Wilhelm Brothers. They released two studio albums with Henry Hirsch, producer of Lenny Kravitz, Madonna, etc.: “Lay Your Burden Down” and “The Sea of the Unwritten.” They also released live album “Like a Bird.”
2021 saw the online release of “Joseph’s Garage”– 12 new home demos recorded on a Tascam 4-track tape machine. Inspired by the Bruce Springsteen album, “Nebraska,” which was recorded on similar equipment.

Sam Bush There was only one prize-winning teenager carrying stones big enough to say thanks, but no thanks to Roy Acuff. Only one son of Kentucky finding a light of inspiration from Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys and catching a fire from Bob Marley and The Wailers. Only one progressive hippie allying with like-minded conspirators, rolling out the New Grass revolution, and then leaving the genre’s torch-bearing band behind as it reached its commercial peak.
There is only one consensus pick of peers and predecessors, of the traditionalists, the rebels, and the next gen devotees. Music’s ultimate inside outsider. Or is it outside insider? There is only one Sam Bush.
